July 4 Outreach
Our first outreach happened on July 4 2020, where we visited 18 families across Greater Manchester. We visited the Older Black Africans in Harpurhey, Charlestown, Cheethamhill, Collyhurst, Oldham, Crumpsall and Bury.
Funding from the Corona virus Community Support Fund, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund and Forever Manchester, has helped OBADO to do outreach work for Older Black Africans across greater Manchester since July 2020. OBADO has distributed 18 parcels so far for cultural foods, natural remedies and home essentials .
OBADO has an advice line and keeps in touch with the most vulnerable Older Black Africans through welfare checks every week to ensure they are safe and well protected. They are encouraged to keep healthy and active which has boosted their confidence; and they are alert about what is going on in their communities. Various referrals are also made and followed up for urgent needed support. Older Black Africans are happy, feel loved and valued. Great thanks to the Government and funders for making this possible.
